I remember when I was growing up we always had a bathtub in our house. But we rarely used it as a bathtub. With 6 people living in my house growing up, we just used it as a shower. Maybe it’s useful to have the option of having a bath or a shower. But when it came down to it, the bathtub just wasted space.
Our bathroom was very small, and it would have been much better in my opinion to ditch the bathtub and go for a nice large shower instead.
What is wrong with a bathtub doing two jobs?
As with any device which tries to do two jobs, it does neither very well. The shower door always leaked water over the floor, and the carpet?
Carpet in the bathroom? Yes, the floors are cold in most English bathrooms, didn’t you know? The carpet at least some way of relieving that shock of stepping on a nasty cold bathroom floor, in the middle of winter.
The narrow width of the bath also meant that the distance between the wall and the shower door was very narrow too. This often bugged me taking a shower, as your arms would touch the walls and the shower door, which were often freezing too. And it was just annoying in general to bump into something while having a shower.
Are You Thinking of Remodelling Your Bathroom?
If you’re thinking about remodelling your bathroom, you might be thinking about installing a new bathtub.
But I think you really need to think carefully about how many baths you actually have over a full year.
And when you do have a bath, do you really make the most of it, and fill it up to the top? This obviously uses a lot of water, which might not be a good thing.
Then you have to think about the time involved.
Yes, you can read a novel in the bath.
But I never have the time to sit in the bath for an hour and make best use of all that water that you have just filled the bath with.
When you’re out shopping for your new bathroom you might find that not all bathtubs double as showers.
It’s Time for a Double Shower Stall
Perhaps it’s time to think about a double shower instead.
This way you can have the extra luxury of having a decent space to have your shower, rather than being cramped in the standard single shower stalls.
Perhaps, the most important thing to remember, when looking to buy a new shower stall, is the amount of space that you have available.
If you’re going from a bathtub to a double shower, you’ll still benefit from extra space.
How to Benefit From Getting Rid of the Bathtub?
When you get rid of the bathtub you’ll be able to install extra cupboard space, or just enjoy the extra space in your new bathroom, so it feels more spacious.
Always a good thing.
They’ll be room to put a couple of nice leafy plants for that exotic, refreshing look and feel.
If you are planning on changing your entire bathroom around, you can benefit by being able to purchase the true shower stall of your choice, without having to worry about whether or not it will even fit in your bathroom.

Once you have decided that you would like to purchase a new bathroom shower stall, as well as how large of one you can purchase, you will need to start shopping for your shower. Although you may expect to find everything that you need all in one place, it may be a little bit difficult to do. Although there are a number of retailers, particularly home improvement stores, that sell standalone shower kits, there are others who do not. If you are unable to find a retailer who sells shower kits, you may need to purchase all of your parts separately. The parts that you will need may include, but should not be limited to, a shower floor, shower walls, a shower door, as well as a shower head.
