As you might have discovered if you’ve been following the Bum Gun Instagram channel, I recently took a few days break down to Phuket.

Whilst in Phuket my wife wanted to try one of the Detox clinics. This is where they encouraged me to swop my morning cup of coffee with a lemon water drink for 10 to 14 days.

They said I’d experience a ton of positive benefits to my energy levels, mood and general health so I thought I’d give it a shot.

While at the clinic I asked them why a lemon water drink is so healthy and this is what they told me.

They said recent studies show that in cases where toxins have built up in our bodies, the lemon juice and peel have tremendous cleansing properties.

As we know lemons are high in Vitamin C and essential for standard growth and development.

If you’re not up on why Vitamin C is so good for you, here’s why. Vitamin C has a ton of  health benefits waiting for you from help with your cardiovascular system, to help with your eyes and skin wrinkles, down to helping your immune system. Not sure you could say the same about that cup of morning coffee.

Do you know that your digestion problems have to do with the health of your stomach? Feeding your body the right things over time builds your body’s ability to process foods better, a lot like building your muscles.

This is a naturally-occurring inhibitor of toxins which can build up in the form of crystals in the body. The Citric acid enhances your body’s ability to naturally flush out these unwanted toxins. The main premise behind lemon water as a detox revolves around its ability to enhance your bodies enzyme function and stimulate the liver. One of the interesting things the clinic told me was that Vitamin C and lemon water drinks can suppress your appetite, so of course help you lose weight.

Pectin and polyphenols are the main substances found in lemons which have weight loss and appetite suppressing qualities. Pectin will help you feel full like other soluble dietary fibers, that should help reduce caloric intake.
